Sometime in May of 2006. Ani and John, life long friends, both found themselves unexpectedly unemployed. Fate had dealt them a losing hand or so it had seemed. John, while seeking gainful employment, thought to himself, "I want to be my own captain" (Oh Captain, my Captain). Ani, took a different path, one filled with booze and drugs and one night stands. That is until John, called her and suggested they become partners and buy a business. Ani, in a lucid moment, said "Hell yeah"! They did a little research on the web and found the talented Mr. Scott Eckman, business broker extraordinaire.
While they pondered what to buy, what industry to rule, Scott was hard at work. The call came in about a book store for sale. A book store, oddly enough, John had never patronized. Ani, on the other hand, when hearing of a bookstore for sale in Anoka, put down the scotch and said excitedly "I love that store, it's my favorite bookstore ever"! With that, Scott and his handy henchmen flew into action. In less then six weeks the deal was inked.
John hasn't seen his family since. Ani has put down the bottle, put on a skirt and has proven to be better at customer service than any one would have expected.
The bookstore in question, J. O'Donoghue Books, had been operated for over three decades by Ms. Jean O'Donoghue. Jean built a loyal following of customers from all over the Midwest that included casual readers as well as collectors. Jean now enjoys a life of leisure. Meanwhile, our heroes are just beginning to realize their folly. Ani was heard to exclaim, "What do you mean, I can't just sit here and read"? And John, Mr. "I can have a full time job and own a bookstore", was recently seen purchasing Rogaine.
All fun aside, we are thrilled to be in the book business. We plan to carry on Jean's traditions and start a few of our own. Please stop in and see us next time you are in Anoka.
